New Year’s Eve in Cape Town

Yes, another year really has passed…

What to do? Well, you could stay at home and watch the countdown on telly with Celine Dion in concert, or be one of the oh-so-fashionable Capetonians that ‘gets out of town for New Years’.

We say bollocks to that – get your glad rags on, bust out the Jimmy Choos / Air Max, and come and celebrate the last few hours of a year that saw the markets melt and the end of both Mbeki and the most dangerous man in history, aka Mr Bush.

In keeping with our quest for stylish intimacy, the 5th instalment of the How Deep Is Your Love New Year’s Eve Party will be at the fabulous Zucca in Kloof Street.

To get you in the mood for the party here are two mixes for download, one from myself and the other from Bruno Morphet. Bruno has been a stalwart of the deep in Cape Town for a number of years and can currently be heard every Friday at Fiction in Long Street.

Bruno says this about his mix:

“Recorded at my residency at Killer Robot in Cape Town. Some rather sinister, stalking techno stuff moving to deep tech house territory towards the end. Elon, Cesare and Disorder, Quarion, Glimpse, Schatrax amongst others…”

It’s available from the lovely people at Whomp-FM, and you can download it here.

My mix is a little (a lot) gentler than Bruno’s, starting off with some downtempo grooves and finishing off with deep house old and new. Includes tracks from Nightmares on Wax, Fresh and Low, Thievery Corporation, Boo Williams, Nick Holder, Alex Gopher, Alix Alvarez and a host of others. Recorded at my Thursday residency at Asoka, you can download it here.

There are still some tickets available for New Year’s Eve. You can find all the info you need on the Facebook Group.
